Reliance Industries will integrate Reliance Retail's physical market with Reliance Jio's digital infrastructure for an e-commerce platform, Mukesh Ambani said at the RIL Annual General Meeting

Mumbai: Reliance Industries Ltd's (RIL) telecommunications division will serve as the foundation on which to build the company's new trading platform, which includes companies such as media and entertainment, education, agriculture, healthcare, said Chairman and CEO Mukesh Ambani on Thursday ,

Speaking to shareholders at the 41st Annual Meeting of RIL, Ambani said that the company will also create a hybrid online-to-offline trading platform by leveraging the physical market of Reliance Retail with the digital infrastructure and services of Telecom's units Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd is integrated.

This is in line with its declared goal of achieving half of its consumer sales in the next ten years. Currently, 80% of the group's sales come from the traditional oil and gas business.

Mint reported on June 14 about RIL plans to enter the e-commerce business by combining its online and offline purchasing capabilities.

"With Jio, we have built a digital connectivity platform with unparalleled capacity and nationwide coverage," Ambani told RIL shareholders on Thursday, adding, "This has enabled Reliance to strategically reinvent itself as a technology platform company."
